Former Wigan Warriors assistant manager Lee Briers is considering a new coaching role.

This according to the Australian publication, the Daily Telegraphwho claims Briers is “keen” to move to the South Sydney Rabbitohs to have a stint as Wayne Bennett’s number two and “eventually become an NRL head coach”.

Briers is one of the most sought-after managers in both hemispheres, with the former Warrington Wolves midfielder linked with the Hull FC Super League job before Brisbane Broncos assistant John Cartwright was given the go-ahead.

Briers has made quite the impression Down Under with the Brisbane Broncos as attack coach, having joined from the Warriors ahead of the 2023 season.

The former Warrington Wolves midfielder helped Wigan lift the Challenge Cup in 2022 and earned a move to the NRL with the Broncos for 2023.

The Welsh international previously spoke of his desire to become a head coach, saying: “With coaching, there’s not a lot of jobs out there but my ambition is to be a head coach, whether it’s in the NRL or Super League,” Briers. he told the BBC 5 Live podcast.

“All I can do is keep getting this experience and wait until that job comes along. I’m in no rush, I could be an assistant for the rest of my life.

“But I’m ready now, I’m ready to be a head coach whether it’s now or a few years from now. I’m enjoying it at the Broncos and I’m learning how to handle it.”
