Phil Foden joins the plan to help youngsters play football for free

McDonald’s Fun Football has announced the latest signing to its selection of ambassadors for the 2024/2025 season – England and Manchester City star Phil Foden. Foden joins Jude Bellingham, Beth Mead, Lauren James and Virgil van Dijk as a long-term ambassador for the programme, which offers free football training to children aged five to 11 across the UK.

Foden surprised the children with a Fun Football session in Manchester. He said: “Friday at a session like this brings back a lot of memories. It’s great to see kids happy and playing the game we all loved. I was obsessed and had great memories there playing with my mates. I am excited to be a part of a program like this.

“McDonald’s provides sessions led by qualified trainers to thousands of children, all free of charge – that’s huge. I wish I had this when I was younger, having fun and playing football with your mates is what it’s all about! We hope we can inspire even more kids to start playing this summer as we look to go all the way.”

Andrew Moys, Vice President of McDonald’s Impact, said: “We are delighted that Phil is joining the McDonald’s Fun Football family. Our aim is to show children across the UK that football is for everyone. Phil is one of the most exciting players in the world right now and by joining our team, alongside our other brilliant ambassadors, we hope that kids across the country will be inspired to play wherever they are.”

The McDonald’s Fun Football program is a national football initiative that provides free FA qualified football training for children aged 5-11. The program has been running for more than 20 years and is now available in more than 80% of low-income urban areas.
