Leicester City identify Championship manager as Enzo Maresca replacement?

Leicester City are reportedly already taking steps to find a successor to Enzo Maresca, who is reportedly close to becoming Chelsea’s head coach.

Leicester City have identified a potential successor for Chelsea-bound Enzo Maresca.

Having won the Championship title, the Foxes had hoped to focus on a return to the Premier League with the Italian still in the dugout.

However, in the last 24 hours it has become increasingly likely that the 44-year-old will make the switch to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea reportedly making a formal approach.

While it may take a few days to complete a deal with Maresca on holiday in Marbella, the general consensus is that Leicester will need another head coach soon.

If Maresca agrees to Chelsea’s terms, Leicester will have at least £8 million to use in their pursuit of an alternative release clause in the current head coach’s contract.

Despite their well-documented financial problems, this will give them more freedom to approach a current manager if they so desire.

Leicester are interested in Corberan

Conformable talkSPORT football editor Jason Bournewho commented X, West Bromwich Albion trainer Carlos Corberan is on their short list.

The Spaniard has been a major hit at The Hawthorns since arriving in October 2022, guiding the Baggies to the Championship play-offs in 2023-24 before losing in the semi-finals to eventual winners Southampton.

Corberan is under contract until 2027, while he is currently expected to be supported by the club’s new owners in the transfer market, which he previously had to deal with due to financial problems they had with the previous owners.

However, it appears the 41-year-old may be given the decision to decide whether he wants to move to the East Midlands.

Why can Corberan be targeted?

During the match, West Brom produced an impressive performance against Leicester at the King Power Stadium, with the visitors far and away the better team, but ultimately made them pay as they wasted numerous chances in a 2-1 defeat .

Overall, though, Corberan has now enjoyed strong spells at both Huddersfield Town – who he guided to the 2022 Championship play-off final – and the West Midlands side.

Although he is yet to manage a Premier League game, Marcelo BielsaThe former Leeds United first-team manager has built such a reputation that an eventual move to a club in that division seems inevitable, unless he takes West Brom into the top flight next season.

Corberan currently has a record of 39 wins, 18 draws and 27 defeats during his time at West Brom.
