Arne Slot will inherit an already talented Liverpool squad. But there is definitely room for him to improve.

Obviously, it would have been incredible if Jürgen Klopp had managed to pull off a quadruple, or even just a second Premier League title. But the manner in which Liverpool failed at least sets a slightly less impossible expectation for Slot, while highlighting exactly where the existing squad can improve.

Given the success Klopp has enjoyed over the past eight and a half years, it is impossible to guarantee that it will be a positive change. But at the same time, there is something refreshing and exciting about the emergence of a new brand of football – almost two years ago, Carlo Ancelotti called Liverpool predictable in the wake of Real Madrid’s Champions League final triumph and a change of manager. will address this decisively.

But who could benefit from Slot’s arrival? There are no immediately obvious candidates in terms of formation, with Feyenoord set up in a similar fashion to Liverpool – the 4-3-3 sometimes looks like a 4-2-3-1, so maybe Harvey. Elliott or even Fábio Carvalho could get a few chances behind the striker.

Liverpool legend John Barnes has picked two more squad members who are likely to grow under Slot. Speaking to soccernews, he backed the $89m (£71m/€83m) duo to improve.
