84-year-old driver dies in two-car crash at M-5 intersection in Novi

NOVI — An 84-year-old Novi woman was killed Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash in the city.

Novi police responded to the crash at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, May 5, at the intersection of M-5 and Thirteen Mile Road, Novi Police Chief Jason Meier said in an email.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The surviving driver, a 59-year-old West Bloomfield man, told police he was southbound on M-5 approaching Thirteen Mile in a black Dodge Ram truck. The 84-year-old Novi woman was eastbound on Thirteen Mile in a Buick SUV.

“At this time, it is believed that the deceased driver ran a red light,” Meier wrote in the email.

The West Bloomfield man was taken to Ascension Providence Hospital with minor injuries and released the same day.

The case is still under investigation with assistance from the Michigan State Police.
