Income and Benefits – G5 Income and Benefits Officer – income job at Sheffield City Council

The Council’s Revenue and Benefits Service is responsible for invoicing, collecting and recovering council tax, business rates, housing benefit overpayments and miscellaneous debts.

We are looking for enthusiastic and positive individuals to work as part of our administration and processing teams within the Revenue Service.

We welcome collaborative thinkers, excellent communicators and people who are keen to develop their skills across a broad cross-section of the service. You should be able to demonstrate a clear customer focus with well-developed customer service skills balanced with a commitment to effective service delivery.

We are looking to appoint permanent, primarily full-time positions in the following roles:

  • Council tax invoicing – relevant experience of invoicing work such as rebates, payments, removals is required.
  • Council tax collection – relevant experience in collection and recovery cycle actions is required.
  • Council Tax Recovery Team – relevant experience of working in a recovery/collection environment.
  • Housing Benefit Overpayments and Miscellaneous Debt Recovery – a well developed knowledge of HB Overpayment and Miscellaneous Debt Recovery would be highly desirable.
  • Business rates – well developed knowledge of NNDR collection and billing required.

We currently operate a hybrid working model.

For these roles you will need a range of skills and experience including:

  • Experience and knowledge of Council Tax, overpayment of Housing Benefit and Miscellaneous Debt or Business Rates. Experience and knowledge of accurate billing, collection and recovery across teams and various revenue streams. Experience in the collection and recovery of a range of local authority debts and extensive knowledge of revenue maximization throughout the recovery cycle. Well developed IT skills. There is a requirement to be familiar with income and benefits processing systems and Microsoft Office 365 applications, particularly Excel and MS Word. Experience and knowledge of a customer-oriented approach to service delivery, balanced with the needs of service users.
  • Experience in dealing with internal and external customers through all available communication channels.
  • Educated to GCSE grade 4 and above (including maths and English) or an equivalent level of experiential learning
