Porro, Kulusevski on target as Spurs beat Sheffield, qualify for Europe

May 19, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur cemented their place in next season’s UEFA Europa League group stage with a comfortable 3-0 win over relegated Sheffield United. Victory at Bramall Lane leaves the Blades without a win in their last 14 English Premier League games.

Although Sheffield had the first chance through Ben Brereton Díaz, it was the visitors who took control. Spurs struggled initially, inviting pressure from the home side, but a counter-attacking move saw Dejan Kulusevski pull them ahead, firing home from Heung-Min Son’s cross.

After the opener, Tottenham piled on the pressure, with Pedro Porro’s long-range effort forcing a stunning save from Wesley Foderingham. The first half petered out but the game sprang to life after the break when Spurs pushed for a second.

Sheffield’s defensive resilience finally broke as Brennan Johnson’s rebound fell kindly for Porro to tap home a second. Kulusevski then added a third, calmly finishing from a sublime pass from James Maddison to seal a convincing victory for the north Londoners.

While Tottenham clinched fifth place and Europa League football, Sheffield United’s disappointing EPL campaign ended with a whimper as they return to the Championship.
