Crossbows and baseball bats found after man attack at A38 petrol station in Erdington

A number of weapons have been found at a suspect’s home after a man was attacked at a Birmingham petrol station. The attack happened at a garage on the A38 Tyburn Road in Erdington at around 6.45am today, Friday 17 May.

The victim was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of an assault at 6.49am on Tyburn Road in Birmingham. An ambulance arrived at the scene.

“On arrival I found a man. He was assessed by ambulance staff and suffered injuries which were not believed to be serious. He was treated by ambulance staff at the scene before being taken to hospital for further treatment.”

Police officers arrested a 57-year-old man on suspicion of assault at a property in Shepherds Green Road, north of Tyburn Road, a short time later. Inside the property they found two crossbows, a baseball bat and cannabis.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “A man has been arrested and a number of weapons recovered following an incident in Birmingham on Friday morning. A man was attacked at a petrol station on Tyburn Road but was not seriously injured.

“A 57-year-old man was arrested a short time later at an address in Shepherds Green Road on suspicion of assault. After searching the address, officers also found two crossbows, a baseball bat and cannabis. The man remains in custody for questioning.”
