Colby Art concludes a series of outings for Brent Parish

Beaconsfield trainer Brent “Buckets” Parish celebrated his 50th training win when former Victorian racer Colby Art (betterthancheddar) ($6.50) scored in the Chartley Estate Stakes (1680m) at Launceston on Friday night.

The seven-year-old son of Betterthancheddar settled into one-on-one from the second-row draw before rider Rohan Hillier took the pacer out into a clear racecourse three wide from 500m to run later to score 5.6m over. Alberio ($8) and Lalibela ($31) with a mile rate of 1:58.2s.

“You put these good drivers in, they get to those good places.

“He drew two on the second line and it always looked like he was going to have a good performance. There was a bit of speed, which suited him better than the start the previous week. He doesn’t like it when I go slow because it gets a little bold and he’s also a little unique,” trainer Brent Parish said after the race.

Parish brought the pacer from Victoria and the gelding is yet to miss a check in five Tasmanian starts.

“He’s won a check every start and that’s what I’m looking for, a horse that can pay his own way.

“I saw it on the trading ring for sale and was debating whether to buy it as I was thinking about getting out of the game. You get to the point of whether you would buy another one or just get out. So I bit the bullet and bought it. I watched a few of his runs and he was never far off. We thought he deserved to pay for what we paid for him,” Parish said.

“I don’t know if he will start from a stand. I think he’ll be pretty quiet as he looks, so there will be a few races for him over the Christmas period,” added the trainer owner.

The win ended a run of exits for the hobby trainer, who often has a small team to work with.

Victorian duo Conor Crook and Jordan Chibnall combined for a double, scoring with Ultimaction ($2.35) and Strawberry Bling ($7).

Michael Laugher also prepared a double with Crack The Vault ($15) and Royal Appointment ($1.55 fav).

Crack The Vault was led by Kayleb Williams, who completed a driving double later in the night on Ce Pe Three ($10).

Spacewriter ($4) continued his good form, winning the last race of the night.
