Police uncover £160,000 cannabis plant in Nottinghamshire home raid

A man has appeared in court after neighborhood police discovered a cannabis plant when they raided a home.

Officers seized more than 160 cannabis plants when they executed a warrant at the property, in Big Barn Lane, Mansfield, at around 1.55pm on Wednesday (May 1).

The Class B drug was grown in four separate areas on the floor of the house.

Officers from the Mansfield Borough Policing Squad also arrested a man who was found inside the property.

Thirty-three-year-old Aljon Kacaj, of Big Barn Lane, was charged with producing a class B drug.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (2 May) and will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 23 May 2024.

Sergeant Neil Priestley, from Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was a large cannabis crop and I am pleased that neighborhood officers were able to close it down, destroy the plants and charge a suspect.

“I would urge anyone who thinks cannabis is being grown in their neighborhood to get in touch.

“Your information could be vital in helping us take positive action.”

All cannabis seized from the address will be destroyed and equipment decommissioned.
