1. Ideal size of the group ========================== - Ideally we'd like to keep membership between 8 to 12 committed, full-time people. We would need between 6 - 8 per performance - Once the group reaches a size of less than 10 people, thought must be given to recruiting new members. 2. Procedure for bringing in new members ======================================== - Potential new members may be drawn from any source, though the drop-in workshop is the most likely source. When possible, potential new members will be invited to participate in the public drop-in sessions first before being invited to try the SAR group. - New members will be brought in one at a time. The process for introducing, and accepting new members, and for new members accepting entrance to the group, is as follows: - Potential members will be approached by current SAR members. The approach should be in a manner such that it's clear that we are a formal, though amateur group. We have space for a new full-time member, and would like to meet them, have them meet us, and if things look good, have them join the group. - One week in advance, the member who would like to bring aboard a new member will notify the rest of the group of their intent. - The prospective member will be invited out for two or three SAR workshop sessions to provide sufficient time for the rest of the group to get a sense of the person, their abilities, and evaluate the chemistry between themselves and the new person. - Once these sessions have passed, the member sponsoring the new person or the SAR leader will call for a vote. Each member will vote once, in secret as to whether they believe the new person should join the group. - A vote will be passed if it is unanimous, or if at most one dissenting vote is cast. If more than one dissenting vote is cast, the group will discuss their overall impressions of the new member, and ultimately re-vote. The success or failure of the re-vote will be determined by the same criteria as the initial vote. 3. After a successful vote ========================== - With a successful vote, a formal invitation will be extended to the new prospect via the member who introduced the newcomer to the group. Financial and time commitments will be made clear to the new member. If these terms are acceptable, they will become a regular, full-time member of Some Assembly Required. - The new member will be on a "learning" curve for the first few months or so. This means that they may not participate in an upcoming show or perhaps only play a very minimal role. Their goal (with help from the members of SAR) for the first few months will be to achieve a 'comfortable' performance level and develop a confidence that is in the ballpark with the rest of SAR.
